Saturday 13th of July was our fifth round of the FSRA First Call Refrigeration Pre-Injection championship joining the biggest sidecar grid seen at Aintree for a long time. Thirteen Preinjection and PI guests joining eight club teams made a near capacity grid of 21, made up of all variants of outfits, abilities and ages.

This was our second visit since the reopening of the Aintree Road race circuit in 2021

Race 1

Race one was the second event after lunch with the earlier qualifying being in dry conditions. Luckily the lunch break gave time for all teams to change to the correct wet.

F2 Class

It was great to see last year’s preinjection F2 champion Derek Salleh with new novice passenger Zac Andrews Ireson 600 Yamaha joining us for the first time this year. Their wet race win was just three seconds in front of second placed Redd Gilroy/ Taylor Oldroyd (Windle 600 Yamaha). Third place Steve Woolcott/ Dave Saville (Derbyshire 600 Honda) then father and son team Geoff and Sam Knight GSR 600 Thundercat. Then Jan Tyrrell improving with last minute stand in passenger Mick Fairhurst (Baker 600 Yamaha).

F1 Class

Leading the preinjection pack the F1 leaders Gary Fairhurst/ Billy Andrews (Windle ZZR900) with newcomers on the block Ciaran McVey/ Bryn Rooney (Derbyshire 1100 Suzuki Bandit) second. Third place and first time to Aintree, George McMahon /Mick Ranson (1100 Shelbourne Suzuki) with Dave Tibbles/ Raitch Greenwood (DDR 1100 Suzuki) finishing fourth F1 after the retirement of Mark Burns/Jack Fairhurst (LCR 1000 Yamaha) due to ignition problems.

Race 2

F2 Class

Back on dry tyres and Gilroy/Taylor back on top form with their win pushing back Salleh/Z Andrews to second. But a failed overtaking manoeuvre by Woolcott/Saville finished their race both ending up in the vegetation on turn two of the second lap, no persons or machinery were injured. This promoted the Knights to third with Tyrell/M Fairhurst fourth.

F1 class

G Fairhurst/ B Williams take the win but a broken throttle cable sidelines McVey/Rooney race. Burns/J Fairhurst snapped their chain on the last lap leaving McMahon / Ranson to claim second, Tibbles/Greenwood third.

Race 3

F2 Class

Gilroy/Taylor, Salleh/Z Andrews came first and second with the Knights taking third. Back out with slightly less aggression Woolcott/ Saville fourth, with Tyrell/M Fairhurst fifth.

F1 Class

Burns/J Fairhurst terrible weekend ends with them being unable to make the start of the last race. G Fairhurst/ B Williams claim their fourteenth win of the season. McVey/Roony cable repaired second, McMahon/Ranson third, Tibbles/Greenwood fourth.
