Pre-Injection Sidecar & Engine Regulations

The F.S.R.A. Pre-Injection Sidecar Championship is split into two: Classes F1 and F2


F2 sidecars - 600cc four cylinder, four stroke machines, and 350cc two stroke machines.

F1 sidecars - all other engines not eligible for the F2 class.

0pen to non-fuel injected machines manufactured before 2001.

i.e. no modern injected engines modified to accept carburettors.


In both classes the chassis needs to be of a tubular steel construction and of the Pre-injection period, pre 2001 Modern replicas of the period chassis design are allowed. Long and short chassis are allowed in both classes.

Open to non-injected engines manufactured before 2001, therefore engines and chassis should be of this period.

F.S.R.A. Post Classic Sidecar Eligibility Rules


Twin cylinder engines that started production by 1984 - up to 1300cc four strokes.

Period 1 - Multi cylinder engines and car derived engines may be up to 1300cc two or four stroke of a type that started production by 1978 e.g.GS10000, Z1000, TZ750 etc.

Period 2 - Multi cylinder and car derived engines may be up to 1300cc four strokes of a type that started production by 1984 e.g. Air cooled GSX, FJs, GPZs etc

Carburettors - There shall be no restriction in the size of carburettors used but units must be of a type used within the classic period.; Amal Mk 2 carburettors, including smooth bores (but excluding Powerjet version) may be used, as may the Keihin CR. Flat side carburettors and Fuel injection are permitted if fitted to that machine as original equipment, or modified within the classic period. Fuel supply may be gravity feed, mechanical or electric pump.

Clutch - compatible with the period may be used.

Ignition systems will be free of restriction


Chassis should be of tubular or box section steel construction in keeping with the cut-off date of 1981, with exception of bona-fide “copies” in which case the onus is upon the owner of the machine to prove to the F.S.R.A. the machines validity.

The chassis should be of “conventional” design.

No long wheelbase sidecars.

The engine should be situated in front of the driver and on-line between the front and the rear wheels.

Wheels may be of 10" 12" 13 "or 16" both slick and treaded tyres are eligible.

Streamlining must be of an appearance in keeping with the period.

Front suspension - must be either by telescopic forks or leading/trailing link design. Hub centre steering and sidecar wheel steering are not permitted unless specifically approved for that machine by the Eligibility Sub-committee.

Rear suspension – must be of period type and construction.

Brakes - may be drum or disc on two or three wheels. Mechanical and / or hydraulic operation is permitted and provided, that there are two independently operated braking systems, only brake callipers of the period can be used.


Machines must be prepared for racing in compliance with the A.C.U. Standing Road Regulations, F.S.R.A. Standing Regulations and the Supplementary Regulations for each event.

Special Dispensations

Machines that do not comply with the eligibility regulations but are of a “special interest " may be allowed to race at the discretion of the F.S.R.A. Committee.
