Apologies for the slightly late report (holiday time!), but what a fantastic Sidecar racing event Donington Park proved to be, with sixty plus outfits at the meeting made up of in excess of twenty British F2’s, similar numbers of Pre-Injection machines and complemented with a handful of club racers.
John Shipley Jnr delayed his family holiday, with Milo Ward back alongside him holding the third wheel down, reaping dividends, winning all three races. Championship leaders Simon Horton / Adam Buxton snapped their chain on the startline in race one, but secured a brace of second places in the other outings. Joe Heys' first time out with his new own built long wheelbase chassis housing a Kawasaki ZZR1200 motor took a hat trick of podium places along with new passenger Gary Wheeler.
Battling behind the bigger engines were the 600's, led by the Chandler brothers, taking a well-earned podium in Saturdays greasy and damp race. The drier conditions on Sunday led to faster lap times, and favoured the larger capacity outfits.
Entries were so good that the Donington sidecar grid was oversubscribed, with six reserves, twenty four of the thirty being competitors from the F.S.R.A. / Lane Building Services Championships - the largest turn out so far this year, emphasising the popularity of this Pre-Injection Championship and the close racing throughout the field.
In terms of plans for 2019, some of the entrants on the smaller capacity machinery (particularly 600's) are discussing the possibility of having a separate section within the series, which would see in effect two classes in the Pre-Injection Championship next year. This will be discussed and (if necessary) voted on at the F.S.R.A. A.G.M. On Saturday 24th November.
The full race results from Donington Park can be found on the N.G. Website in the results section, and the full race report will be published in the next issue of the F.S.R.A. magazine.
Thank you to all our sponsors;- Adrian Lane Building Services, Pagid Brakes and the N.G. club for hosting our championship. The next round of the series sees our annual visit "north of the border" to East Fortune on the 22nd and 23rd September.
