BATTLE OF BRITAIN NATIONAL F1 SIDECAR CHAMPIONSHIP 2010 BATTLE OF BRITAIN NATIONAL F1 SIDECAR CHAMPIONSHIP 2010
Some of the most dynamic and progressive companies in Great Britain have defied the effects of the Credit Crunch and announced a £100,000.- plus package of support for the 2010 “Battle of Britain” F1 Sidecar Championship. Although it’s billed as the “Battle of Britain” that actually undersells the championship, as the provisional entry list is a veritable who’s who of worldwide sidecar racing talent. It’s also much more than “National” as the Championship Status will be “European Open”, making it the highest ranking series outside of the World Championship so a small invasion fleet will be crossing the channel once a month to try and plunder the £4,000.- per round purse. As with all things ‘Sidecar’ though, this will be first and foremost a Sporting battle and the Post Race atmosphere will be one of camaraderie and congratulation, no matter who wins. The Championship will be organised and administered by Thundersport GB and promoted by RKBF1 over eight weekends on eight of the top UK racing circuits. A lucky 24 of the worlds very best sidecar teams have been selected to form the core of the championship and these teams will be joined by up to 10 one-event teams selected from the teams local to each venue. The permanent teams will not only benefit from free entry (worth £2,200 each), but will also be competing for their share of the £32,000.- guaranteed prize fund, whilst one-event teams will also be invited at no cost and have the possibility of invitation to further rounds via performance based incentives thanks to RKBF1 and their associate sponsorship partners. Provisional Calendar:- Rockingham – 9th/11th April Snetterton – 1st/3rd May Cadwell Park – 29th/31st May Oulton Park – 9th/10th July Donington Park – 24th/25th July Brands Hatch – 28th/30th August Anglesey – 17th/19th September Mallory Park – 29th/31st October
Motors TV will be covering the whole series on channel 413 (Sky) with up to 5 repeat showings of each broadcast. Official registration information can be found at www.thundersportgb.com or www.britishF1sidecar.com (live from 1st Jan 2010) or come and see us on stand R5 (Hall 3) at the NEC Motorcycle Show from 27th November to 6th December. The new championship will feature no less than three sidecar World Champions and the very best of the up and coming British and European youngsters. With such a wealth of talent, it’s not only the prize fund that’s still building, the excitement is mounting too as the teams prepare for battle. Steve Webster MBE said “This is the best news for Sidecars in the last 15 years. It will showcase the area of motorcycle racing that we dominate on the world stage and for the public to have 8 chances to see the best teams in the world performing in Britain is just fantastic. I will be supporting the series in a promotional role at every round and I just can’t wait for the series to start.” The ten time World Champion congratulated all involved in bringing the series together. It’s the only place to be, so make sure that you’re there when we pull the trigger and fire off round one of this spectacular race series at Rockingham Motor Speedway. Situation Vacant The position of Club secretary is up for grabs! Have you ever thought “ I could do that job”?Do you want to have a go?Are there things within the club that you have thought should be done differently?Well, here is your chance. After 13 years as FSRA secretary I feel it is now the time for me to let someone take over this position, If you remember I tended my resignation for this position in the past, However, at the time nobody was willing to take on this position, so I agreed to remain in office for a little while longer. Although I do not wish to cut all my connections with the club, I feel that now may be the time for someone else to come along with the committee to have the opportunity to take the club forward. If anyone thinks they would like to take on the challenge, please come along to the Formula Sidecar Racing Association AGM on Saturday 21 November at 12pm Yew Lodge Hotel, Kegworth. AGM Information If you have any proposals that need to go on the agenda for the AGM, please email them to Pat for inclusion as soon as possible. There are Committee Members that will not be standing for re-election, please see the OrganisationChart in downloads here. We need a volunteer to take on the role of F1 Press Officer, and an F1 series Co-ordinator, the full scale of that role will depend on the structure of the 2010 F1 Series when that is finalised. The organisation chart with the vacant positions is available to download here | Posted by admin on Sunday 18 October 2009 - 14:39:04 | |
