Swan Combi Challenge/Yokohama-ACU FII Sidecar Championship - THRUXTON Qualifying: 26 outfits lined up for the second round of the Swan Combi Challenge which also saw the opening round of this year's Yokohama/ACU sponsored British Championship. Winners of both races in the opening round of the Swan Combi at Brands Hatch a fortnight ago, John Holden and Andy Winkle (D&A Walmsley LCR Suzuki) were fastest in the free practice session at 1m 25.747, outside the 13 year old lap record to the names of Rob Fisher and Rick Long. Dean Banks' passenger, Kelly Lewis also needed the medics' attention after tumbling out at the chicane, and so missed the qualifying session.Holden was again fastest for most of the shortened qualiying session at 1m 24.978 but Simon Neary and Paul Knapton (Hudspeth/Crowe Racing LCR Honda) had been building both confidence and speed and snatched pole position with an unofficial lap record of 1m 23.923, The session was red-flagged when Brands runners-up Matt Dix and Shaun Parker (DWS Racing Baker Honda) had a shunt at Segrave and unfortunately Shaun suffered a broken ankle. Five of the teams didn't achieve the qualifying time but all were deemed to be 'getting there' and so Neary would head the 24 starters for the two Sunday races.[ Read the rest... ] | Posted by John Newton on Tuesday 20 April 2010 - 15:00:23 | |
