350 Banshee engine claims its first success
After several years of perseverance Alan Longshaw and John Longbottom achieved where other F350 teams have been experimenting. Alan and John had their first finish of the season with a second place and fastest 350 lap. Their engine is based on the Yamaha 350 Banshee, a two stroke all terrain vehicle produced by Yamaha It was sold in the USA from 1987 to 2006, utilizing a unique power plant, a 350cc Liquid cooled, two stroke twin cylinder, parallel reed valve Carburetor engine producing 39 Horsepower.
However Gordon and Julie Jones were weekend’s top point’s scorers and increasing their lead in the FSRA F350 championship.
Saturday race one was won by Dave Cheesmond and Andrew Taylor BSK Yamaha with Gordon and Julie second. Paul Owen and Phil Parkes took third followed by Alan and John claiming their first points. Race two Saturday Gordon and Julie were back to their winning ways with Merv Noble/Keith Brotherton second on their Ham-Yam 350, Paul Owen retiring due to clutch failure and both BSK and the Banshee failing do to lose exhausts, what an eighty pence spring can cost you!.
Sunday all repaired Noble wins race one Longshaw second with the fastest lap of the weekend. Cheesmond third, and Jones fourth. Paul Owen and Phil Parkes were disqualified due to not fully completing the sighting lap.
Race two Sunday; the Jones family are back to their winning ways, Noble second and Longshaw third, Owen fourth.
The Post Classic championship; - Pat Gallagher and Sean Rooney prove that a four stroke can still live with the might of the TZ750’s their GS1000 claiming the most championship points with two wins and two seconds.
Saturday race one Gallagher wins with brothers Tony and Neil Wheatley second on their Ireson TZ 750, farther and son Chris and Gary Fairhurst third on their Z1000 Kawasaki. Race two Stuart Mellor with Mick Fairhurst had first place on their TZ750, after sorting out oiled plugs which caused his retirement in race one. Gallagher second Wheatley’s third. After sorting a borrowed GS motor from team Gallagher Ed Taylor and Ian Breakwell took fourth.
Sunday Gallagher wins the first race Mellor second Wheatley’s third Fairhurst fourth and Taylor fifth. Race two the longer eight lap race allowed Mellor to catch Gallagher for the win, Wheatley’s third and fourth Dave Tibbles and Wayne Kemp Kawasaki Z1000 fifth after sorting out ignition problems which had dogged him all weekend.
