F.S.R.A. F350/Post Classic/Pre Injection Sidecar Championship
Round Two - Aintree - 14th May 2016

Great weather and our own championship race, the first time for many years and also two new teams to the series: father and son Gerald and Daniel Hodgson on a 600 Shelbourne Honda; and Ian Sutcliffe with Robert Bryant riding a 600 Jacobs Yamaha. All four were novices, competing in their first meeting. Also joining our grid but not as championship contesters were Wattie Brown and Brian Taylor on a Windle TZ350, together with Gordon Jones with Smudge Taylor, making it two 350’s on the grid.
With grid decisions decided by the "drawing a number out of the hat" method, this saw another father son team Bruce and Ashley Moore in pole position. Rob Fisher with Rick Long aboard their 720 Baker Yamaha took the win chased by Joe Heys and Marc Maier on Joe’s self built 600 Thundercat. The Moore family 600 Ireson R6 claimed third, Wattie and Brian 350’s fourth, myself (Dave Tibbles) and Wayne Kemp with a FJ Yamaha fifth. Gordon Jones and Smudge Taylor's Yamaha TZ350 crossed the line sixth. The all ladies team of Marianne Walford and Kerry Hughes (600 Baker Yamaha) seventh. The long wheel based Suzuki 1100 of newcomers Mark Burns and Steven Winfrow finished eighth. The other two newcomers had mixed fortunes - the Hodgson’s after two visits to the grass in the race still managed a finish, but Sutcliffe and Bryant's gearbox on their 600 Honda expired on the last lap, sadly ending their days racing.
A repeat of the first outing, except Fisher and Long won with the fastest lap of the day for our class at 1.02. Burns and Winfrow managed to get past the ladies this time to claim seventh and the Hodgson family retired on the last lap with an electrical problem.
Thanks to Dave Edwards and the Aintree Motorcycle club for giving us our own race, last year only five teams entered this round but with the new Pre-Injection class we are seeing newcomers to our sport on less costly machines this meeting we had three novice drivers and four novice passengers.
